Heat transfer plates are used in PEX heating installations to facilitate dispersion of heat from the PEX tubing to the floor structure. These plates improve the overall performance of the radiant system, when the PEX is installed on wooden floors. They help eliminate or greatly reduce the presence of cold spots on the floors.
Most common plates are made of aluminium using stamping methods. They vary in size, both width and length, and they are produced to apply to one or two PEX lines. The heat transfer plates used in PEX plumbing mechanism are an important addition in Radiant floor heating applicability.
These plates are used in all radiant floors heating PEX plumbing functionality as they effectively disperse the heat to the floor from PEX tubing. This entire mechanism improves the overall functionality of the radiant system. Floors heated with the use of heat transfer plates experience the elimination or a significant reduction of the numbers of cold or hot spots. Another benefit of these PEX heat transfer plates is an increase of heat transfer efficiency and overall increase system’s performance. This helps reducing the cost related to excessive heating.
Aluminum is the most commonly used material for manufacturing rigid plates for heating. This material offers excellent conductivity. The heat is evenly distributed within less response time with the help of heat transfer plates. The omega-shaped channel are designed to receive the PEX tubing. With this shaped channel, the tube can be easily snap over the pipe, ensuring a tight contact between the PEX and the plate.
Joists and sandwich type installations are the most common construction forms taking advantage of the heating plates. The channel incorporated in the units is rotated towards the downward direction so that they can be secured at an appropriate level to the subfloor. After this, the PEX pipes are snapped into the channels.
Stamped plates are usually thinner than the extruded plates. When installing the PEX tube inside the plates, it is imperative to avoid contact between the sharp edges of the plates and the tube.
